Concept Maps and Advanced Organizers in Your Own Classroom

The use of concept maps and advanced organizers in the classroom are vital to student learning. It is beneficial to students of any age because they allow the student to organize the information being learned before, during, and after learning. I find it important to provide these before learning takes place because it allows students to connect the new information to prior knowledge. I also find that the organizers during learning provide the students with focus when learning new information. Using these at the end of a lesson allows the students to commit some of the information to long-term memory. These act as a review and as a connector to prior knowledge.
