Based on your readings, do you think teachers should teach to students’ perceived learning styles? Why or not?
The most important aspect of teaching is drawing on the students' past experiences in order for them to learn. In this process it is important to know where the students come from. This could mean that the teacher is aware of the general characteristics, the personal/social characteristic, the academic characteristics, the "specific entry" characteristics, the learning styles, and the environment characteristics. As "Curry's Onion Metaphor" explains, the most important information that en educator can gain about the student is the preferred learning style of each student. I find this so important that this analysis takes the entire first week of school. Each student participates in various activities that allow me to gather information on the preferred learning style. I think the most important aspect of analyzing this information is the ability to recognize the strongest learning styles, not just one. In other words, if the testing data reveals that a student tends to learn best from visual material, they may also benefit from active learning.
